The fight over music rights and artificial intelligence now involves Elvis Presley’s catalogue. According to NME, rightsholders for the singer have sued Anthropic, the company behind AI assistant Claude, alleging copyright infringement involving 274 songs.
NME reports that the alleged use of the music without permission could leave Anthropic facing more than $40 million in damages. Those claims are allegations, not a court finding. The case puts a major legacy catalogue at the centre of the wider debate over how AI companies use copyrighted music—and who gets to authorise that use.
