“Godzilla Minus Zero” arrived at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival with an enthusiastic Hollywood reception already behind it. According to Variety, the cast’s Sunday appearance came two days before the film opens in Japan, with the stars recalling a standing ovation in Hollywood and fans chanting for filmmaker Yamazaki Takashi.
Kamiki Ryunosuke returns as Shikishima Koichi, while Hamabe Minami also reprises her role in the follow-up to Yamazaki’s Oscar-winning “Godzilla Minus One.” The Tokyo appearance put those returning performers in the spotlight at a key moment: after an enthusiastic overseas welcome, but just ahead of the Japanese audience’s chance to see the new film.
