Reservoir is taking Suno and Anthropic to court over how their AI models were trained. According to Billboard, the independent music publisher alleges that the companies used songs by Madonna and Johnny Cash without authorization to build models capable of generating new material.
The dispute puts songwriters’ work—and who gets to use it—at the center of the AI debate. Reservoir’s complaint raises concerns about technology that could compete with the artists whose music allegedly helped train it. Those claims remain allegations, not findings by a court.
