Taika Waititi is answering criticism of Klara and the Sun with a pointed defense of his latest film. According to Deadline, the Oscar-winning director highlighted its 78% Rotten Tomatoes audience score on Saturday while dismissing critics as “irrelevant, out of touch, obsolete.”
That audience score subsequently stood at 73%, Deadline reported. Waititi also described critics as “sad lost souls,” making his response less a rebuttal of individual reviews than a broad rejection of the people delivering them.
The exchange puts audience approval at the center of Waititi’s defense. But the supplied figures describe only the audience score—not a critics’ score—so they don’t establish the size of any divide between viewers and reviewers.
